{September 8, 2008}   Fall for Purple!

FALL FOR FASHION–

           FALL FOR PURPLE!

Fall 2008 trends are in and they are bold and sexy! We’re seeing goth touches in the form of velvets and lace and fur pieces and trims on accessories like hats, gloves, coats & bags.  Also huge this fall: the cardigan, which is making a quasi-comeback and being worn every which way it can. My way to wear a cardigan? I do the knee-length version, buttoned all the way and belted (a skinny belt looks best) and worn as a dress–super sexy, especially with dark opaque tights and high-heeled ankle boots.

As the designers renewed our fall fashion repertoire with new, saucy selections, they also renewed our fall color palettes as well using lots of purples in their collections. The runways were clad in all hues and shades of purples from violet, lavender, eggplant, and my favorite–deep, rich plum. The purple trend has also emerged in the cosmetic world as well, making its way onto eyes, lips and nails.

So if you wanna be a Fall Fashionista, get out there and get purple, people!

{September 2, 2008}   A Perfect Target Outfit

As summer is coming to a close and the cooler weather begins to roll in, we Fashionistas will be facing that weather transition challenge: dressing for the cooler weather in the morning and the warmer weather in the afternoon. Can be tricky, no? So I’ve put together a great transition outfit, courtesy of Target.com, one of my favorite shop-stops. A sexy but sweet short-sleeved, gray sweater dress paired with black slouchy boots, and a draped cardigan for the cool morning or cool evening. I added a black handbag with silver hardware to add some playfulness.

Mossimo Supply Co. Sweater Dress $29.99            MB Drapery Cardigan $24.99

Mossimo Kat Tall Boots $34.99                                    Angie Lola tote $49.99

{August 24, 2008}   Go Gothic Chic. No, Really!

When you think “Gothic”, words such as glamorous, trendy or fashion aren’t necessarily first to come to mind. It’s usually words more like emo, witchcraft, and darkness that come to mind. But yours truly is here to show you how to make yourself “Gothic chic” by playing up your dark side in a totally sexy way. Not all fashion has to be in the form of floral prints and maxi dresses. No, no no! Think dark! Think…tutus.

That’s right, I said tutus. I’ve always been a lover of Carrie’s pink tutu outfit in the opening credits of the Sex and the City series. But like I mentioned above, I’m going goth on ya today. Avril Lavigne punk? No way! I’m thinking sexy rocker chic. My inspiration? Lauren Conrad’s current cover of CosmoGIRL! magazine. I took one look at her outfit and fell in love instantly. The black tutu Lauren is wearing is from Betsey Johnson for $300. I’ve come up with some less expensive ones below that I think are pretty chic. When paired with a sexy cami, peep-toe heels, a studded belt and chunky jewelry, you could rock that tutu so hard you’ll have the emo girls hatin’ on ya!

Wondering where to wear this look? Nights out on the town are best–such as a concert or out dancing your butt off. Don’t be skerred! Think outside the box when it comes to style and expand your fashion repertoire! If you’re still not sure, check out this post by College Fashion from one of my Sweet Links about How To Deal With Fashion Haters.

Okay, y’all know by now that Victoria’s Secret is one of my very favorite places to shop because I’ve posted about it a few times (see What is Victoria’s Secret?). One of my very favorite products from there is the The Secret Garden Collection, which is a collection of uber scented body cleansers, lotions, and perfume sprays. See, I’m a bit obsessive about personal hygiene, meaning I’m quite serious about looking and smelling great always. (There are worse things to be anal about, no? lol) Therefore, I like to use the 3-part system in my daily hygiene routine: matching scented body cleanser, lotion, and perfume spray. In all my years of using this system, I have tried many 3-part products from different places and of all of the places I’ve tried, Victoria’s Secret has been my favorite. It may be more expensive than what you can get at a drug store, but I will tell you that you are definitely getting what you pay for because the VS brands smell so good and they really do make your skin very soft and smooth.

Below are my picks for the three best smelling scents from there:

Pear Glace’: I’ve been using this scent since I was a teenager. (Matter-of-fact, all the girls at school had this one-if one of us had something, we all had to have it. lol) This one is a blend of pear nectar, cassis & violet, with hints of muguet and sandalwood. It’s a very sexy scent, but I can’t really explain what it smells like because it doesn’t smell fruity or flowery to me at all. Pear Glace’ is one of Victoria’s Secret hottest sellers.

Amber Romance: I just bought this one a couple weeks ago for the first time and it seems to always get my husband’s attention when I use it (that alone makes it worth the money!) This one has blends of black cherry, creme anglaise and sandalwood. I would describe it as a warm, musky scent. Very romantic (hence the name Amber Romance, I guess!)

Berry Kiss: If you like fruity scents, then this is the one for you. This scent happens to be Victoria’s Secret’s current best seller in the Secret Garden Collection. It has blends of wild rasberry, praline and rose, but to me it smells like all berries, berries, berries! (In a good way).

Like these Gladiator sandals?

The Fashionable Housewife has found them on Ebay for $19.99 bid and $22.99 Buy it Now! This is the best deal on these shoes yet and they look so close to the pair SJP wore in the SATC movie!  Go to The Fashonable Housewife to find out more.

Today’s product review is on Covergirl Blast Eye Enhancers eyeshadows, the new line of shadows with a rainbow of bold, vibrant colors.  They come in matte, pearl and sparkle finishes and are divided into two shade groups: the Enhance shades and Blast shades. The Enhance shades deliver a more delicate look, while the Blast shades are made to stand out. The collection comes in singles, trios and quads and are fairly priced under $5 (give or take a few $$ depending in where you purchase them).

Ally and I spotted these colors on one of our shopping outings a few weeks ago and we both decided to try Melt-Down Mauve first, a pearly shade from the Blast group (we chose this one because both of us have green eyes and any colors in the red family will enhance and bring out the green). After trying this one out and loving it, I went out and bought more, all from the blast group. Here’s what I think:

Melt-Down Mauve: This color his one of my very favorites.  It can be worn subtly or dramatic, depending on how much you apply. The finish comes to a beautiful pearl-matte. I applied it from the lash line to just below the brow, where I used a pearl white shadow, and then blended them together where the two colors meet. On a different day I tried a light, soft beige with it and decided it looks much better with the white. It looks amazing with smudged brown liner. As mentioned above, this color is great to make green eyes pop. On a scale of 1-5, Melt-Down Mauve receives a 5.

Knock-Out Pink: This is color is very pretty in the container, but comes out very light, even when applied heavily.  I think it would show up nicely on medium complexions as a subtle look, or it could be used as a Enhancer shade under a another color or on the brow bone. On a scale of 1-5: Knock-Out Pink receives a 2.

Purple Pop:I love, love, love Purple Pop! It’s a deep violet purple that comes to a smooth, pearl-matte finish. It is not to be worn too subtlty; it gives intense color right away. I applied it from the lash line to just below the brow, where I used a matte white, and then blended them together where they meet. I used a soft black pencil liner with it, drawing it out in a cat-eye effect. I had lots of people commenting on it all day. On a scale of 1-5, Purple Pop receives a 5.

Golden Sunrise: This shade is a sparkle finish that goes on heavily and did not look good as an all-over lid color on my fair skin. It came out an orange-brown which made me look a bit washed out. I think it could look better if worn on darker–maybe olive–skin, applied lightly as an Enhancer shade. It could also be worn as an accent on the inner corner of the eyes. On a scale of 1-5, Golden Sunrise receives a 1.
